Stories from Solomon Islands at OZeWAI

Women in IT Solomon Islands ladies were recently recently part of an Australian Adaptability Initiaive (OZeWAI) online conference and had this to say about the importance of the internet, the role it plays in society today and the government and telecommunication projects being rolled out particularly the Coral Sea Cable.

Alice Aote’e WITSI interim President and IT and GIS coordinator for Solomon Water spoke about WITSI, its members and work in the community. She also highlighted what internet was like before the Coral Sea Cable and now that the Coral Sea Cable had arrived in the Solomon Islands.

Christina Kuper – Wini talked about how being so far away from home the internet has kept her connected with and closer to her family back in the Solomon Islands

Juliet Horihau is Webmaster and Moodle Administrator at the the Solomon Islands National University. She highlighted the challenges of slow internet in her daily work and how faster internet would improve access to online courses as well as improved technology and improved resource materials and affordability.
